As we had learned in the previous lessons, the left is Hoh-Toe "River Diagram" 河圖 which was found by Fuk Hey 伏義 the wise man by observing the planets and all that plus the holy dragon-horse back's pattern. The right is the Lok-Sue 洛書 which was found after 800 years from Fuk Hey by a guy called Dai-Yue 大禹 when he was fixing a flood. So how can all that five-elements cycle came up here? Maybe we should take another machine to bring you back in time now so that you can see how it all come together. Now this is what the real-deal 5 elements cycle is about! Oh yeah! You came to the right place that don't put you in a folk's belief scam anymore. This is REAL DEAL history!

Now let's recall from the 4 seasons. In Chinese, we actually put down 5 seasons. The cycle of a year goes like this below:

1) Starting from Spring (wood) and it goes to summer (fire) = wood give birth to fire 木生火

2) Summer (wood) to center (長夏) which is the intersection between that and the autumn, (earth) = fire give birth to earth. 火生土

3) from center (earth) you move to autumn (gold) = earth give birth to gold 土生金

4) from autumn (gold) you move into winter (water) = gold give birth to water.金生水

5) the year cycle and so winter (water) give birth to spring (wood) and the cycle repeats. 水生木...

So this is the cycle of how the 5 elements give brith to each others. In Chinese we call it "sung" 生. This also make sense in the cycle of nature as well. As you can see this cycle of 5 elements giving birth to each others first relates to the cycle of the 5 seasons as well.

Second the cycle can go also in another way which "kills" the elements instead of giving birth. Now the cycle goes like this. The opposite kills each others. Meaning the following:

1) The autumn (gold) kills the spring (wood).

2) The spring (wood) kills the center "long summer" (earth)

3) The center (earth) kills the winter (water)

4) The winter (water) kills the summer (fire).

Basically it is almost like killing the opposite guy. Now in another common diagram, we found out this pattern which shows how the 5 elements both can interact in the birth or kill manner:

The circle arrow going clockwise is the "give birth" line and the star is the "kill" line. If you can relates, you can see this cycle never stops and it just repeats and repeats just like a cycle of nature. 金 gold, 木 wood, 水 water, 火 fire, 土 earth. Please reference to the diagram above and see how this works.

After knowing how the cycle works Dai-Yue found his way to work things out and fixed the flood. He then of course became the famous hero in history of China as well, saving the people from dooms day! Luckily they don't have zombies back then, haha!

What? Yes! This is about the "bagwa" 八卦 that the ancient Chinese created. You can see the math from the lowest row is nothing, and we have yin yang on the second row, now split that again into four and you got the tai yin, siu yin, tai yang, siu yang. Just like the four seasons! In the four, we divide each into their own yin yang again and now got 8 parts! This is the foundation of bagwa.

Fuk-Hey was also the one who invented the pre-heaven bagwa symbol. Which used the Hoh-Toe "River Diagram" he created as a base and do the math to come up with the bagwa. This math is totally long and we will teach it in our lessons and courses in the future. It's not hard to do, but it is just too much to put in the page here. Take a look, this is the pre-heaven bagwa!

The right is the PRE-heaven bagwa, 先天八卦 Seen Tin Baat Gwa, created by Fuk-Hey using the foundation of Hoh-Toe 河圖.

The left is the POST-heaven bagwa, 後天八卦 Haau Tin Baat Gwa, created by the Chow Dynasty king, Chow Man Wong, who is the creator and author of I-Ching!

Both illustrates the same thing but from a different perspective. The pre-heaven bagwa illustrate how things works in the space, big picture. The post-heaven illustrates how the bagwa patterns becomes when things on earth interacts with these things in space. So people on earth use the post-heaven bagwa to see the pattern image on earth. Both are important and they both can be worked back and forth together to create many more formulas which was used through out all the cool things in Chinese culture including Taoism, Fengshui, Chinese medicine and so on. Everything! This is not a religious thing, this is Chinese wisdom with astronomy and study of nature, ancient Chinese science!
